WE ARE GOING TO MISS YOU GEORGIE

I am very sad today. last Wednesday 27 Aug was the last time I saw Georgie. Georgie was one of our 'estate' cat, a' community cat'. He belonged to everyone who loved him.He had been abandoned by his AngMoh owner about a year ago, when this 'angmoh' owner left Singapore, leaving Georgie to fend for himself behind. How can any human being be so responsible.Georgie was a very smart, intelligent cat as far as I know. He knew how to get into your hearts. He beamed with love and tenderness. He craved for a pet everytime he saw us. He would always come running the minute he saw/heard me driving up. Somehow he recognised the sound or perhaps the car itself. Uncanny. He would wait patiently for me to park the car, and the minute I got out, he would 'meow' his famous 'oh, you're home' call. My wife and I will always have some treats and food in the car, always ready to be there to give him some treat which he welcomed. Sometimes, he ignored the food, because what he really wanted was some warmth, some love and a cuddle, which we never failed to offer. Although he was a stray, we took care and loved him like he was our very own. We wanted to bring him home, but couldn't because we live in a flat, and we already have 5 cats of our own. He would sometimes come visiting us on our 3rd floor apartment, but he always stayed at the gate, because he sensed our 5 cats. His visits to our gate were always rewarded with a feed of fresh tuna fish, which he became smart enough to know that each time he came upstairs meant 'fresh tuna fish' treat, so he would always tried to rush into the elevator with us to get upstairs whenever we came home. Like I said, he was an intelligent cat., and he knew what he wanted. We have grown pretty fond of Georgie, together with one other lady neighbour of ours. She would also go around feeding Georgie, and some other 'community cats' in the estate.Well, on the morning of Thursday 28th Aug, we didnt see Georgie on our way out. We thought he was just at another location in the estate. When we got back that evening, and when we didnt see him again, we started wondering what really happned. We asked this neighbour of ours; she didnt see Georgie too. We asked around, the cleaning lady who knew we had been feeding Georgie; she also had no idea what happened.By the third day, 29th, we suspected something nasty must have happened to him. We went around the whole estate, calling his name, hoping that somehow he would respond. No sign of him. We called the SPCA if their officers had come around to pick up any strays in our estate: No.Yesterday, we went again around the estate looking for him; No sign. We feared that he might have been 'catnapped'; we feared the worst, but at the same time, hoping for the best. We asked the security guards on duty if they have seen anything unusual, but they have not seen not heard anything. We still have hope if there were no bad news of any kind.Today, the dreadful news came. One of the security guards whom I knew better came to tell me that he has heard from his supervisor that on the night of 27th Aug itself, he received 2 calls: one from a lady and another from a man. They told him that a cat had been run over by a vehicle in the estate and wanted them to arrange for some one to remove the body. I brought a photo of Georgie to show this security guard's supervisor to see if the description of the dead cat matched Georgie. He confirmed that it was. My wife and I broke down. She told me that she knew of one of the neighbours has been driving at very high speed in the estate car park, and this neighbour on the fourth floor (a lady) could be the one responsible for running over Georgie. Our other neighbour who had been feeding and tending to Georgie also confirmed her suspicion that this lady neighbour could be the culprit as she hates cats, claiming that Georgie had been lying on her car, causing scratches on her car. With such news, our search was over.News that was unwelcome, but necessary for us to finally put Georgie to rest. How can anybody, any human be so iresponsble and uncaring towards other living creatures. They are God's creation as well, and have every right to live in this world as any of us.We have asked the security guards to help us check out from the CCTV record if they could see anything on the tape of the record of the night of 27th Aug.I am hoping that from the CCTV record we can identify the culprit. I am still thinking what I will want to do when the culprit is identified...God help me
